COLUMBIA, S.C. — We are experiencing the coolest air of the season, with below-normal temperatures expected to continue through Saturday. However, a warming trend is on the way, with temperatures set to rise through the weekend and into next week as a high-pressure ridge builds over the area.
Today’s weather will stay dry and cool. The air is unusually dry, with humidity levels well below average. High pressure over the Ohio Valley and New England is keeping northerly winds steady, maintaining the cooler temperatures.
While it will be slightly warmer today than Thursday, highs will reach the upper 60s to around 70 degrees. Tonight, with clear skies and calm winds, temperatures will drop again, though overnight lows should be slightly warmer, settling into the lower to middle 40s.
Looking ahead to the weekend, the dry and cool conditions continue, with high pressure in control. Clear or mostly clear skies are expected through Sunday night, with a gradual warming trend. Saturday will see highs in the low to mid-70s, and Sunday will be a bit warmer, reaching the middle to upper 70s. Nighttime lows will remain cool, dropping into the mid to upper 40s.
As we move into next week, the dry weather continues with temperatures near or slightly above normal. Rainfall is unlikely, and models suggest that the dry conditions will persist. Highs could reach the 80s early in the week, though by the end of the week, a shift in the weather may bring cooler air back into the region as a trough moves into the eastern U.S.
