Sunny, pleasant today. Warmer temperatures over the weekend.

No tropical activity is expected to impact the United States over the next seven days.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — High pressure will keep South Carolina cool and dry through today. A gradual warming trend will begin over the weekend, and it will last until Monday. However, a cold front passing through on Monday will bring the coldest air mass of the season so far, causing temperatures to drop below normal.

Dry, cool high pressure has settled over the area, leading to below-normal temperatures. As we move into the afternoon, conditions will be clear and pleasant. Expect winds of 5-10 mph and daytime highs in the low to mid-70s.

Tonight, as the high-pressure system strengthens, nearly calm winds and dry air will create ideal conditions for radiational cooling, leading to overnight lows in the low to mid-40s—the first real chill of the fall season.

The weekend will continue to see dry conditions, with warm daytime temperatures and cool, crisp nights.

High pressure will move south and east, allowing temperatures to moderate. Saturday will see highs in the upper 70s, rising into the low 80s by Sunday. Though Saturday night will remain cool, with lows in the upper 40s, Sunday night will be milder, with temperatures closer to 60 due to increasing winds ahead of the approaching cold front.

Here are just a few of the numerous pictures we have gotten from last night's northern lights. It was a great show.

A dry cold front will sweep through the area on Monday, bringing a much colder air mass behind it. Below-normal temperatures are expected to last through mid-to-late week. The arrival of the cold front Monday afternoon will bring gusty winds and a sharp drop in temperatures, with cold air settling in by Tuesday. This cooler air mass will persist, with temperatures running about 10 degrees below normal for the rest of the week.
