COLUMBIA, S.C. — A weak, dry front is making its way through the area, but we do not expect any rain. Despite some moisture showing up in the middle layers of the atmosphere, there is no sign of rain.
As the weak front moves through this afternoon, slightly drier air will return, but temperatures will not change much. You can expect highs in the lower 80s in the northern half of the Midlands. It will be a little warmer in the southern half of the area.
Clear skies and light winds will continue tonight, allowing for good cooling, with lows falling into the upper 40s in northern parts of the region and around 50 degrees further south.
Heading into Friday and Saturday, temperatures will stay near or slightly above normal. Saturday looks to be the warmest day, with highs again in the 80s.
Another front will approach Saturday night, bringing a small chance for rain, though it is not much to count on. The northern Midlands may have the best chance for a light shower, while the rest of the area might see a brief sprinkle or two. If rain does fall, it will not be enough to make a significant difference to the dry conditions we’ve been experiencing.
By Sunday, temperatures will drop below normal, bringing a cooler day, but the likelihood of rain will remain low. While some models suggest a slight chance of a shower, it is not enough to break the dry pattern.
The start of next week will bring a gradual warming trend, but dry weather looks set to continue.
