Temperatures gradually warm back into the 80s this week

Columbia had a high temperature of 88 degrees Saturday. This set a record high for October 26.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Temperatures will be near normal today under partly cloudy skies. Gradually, we will warm to above normal levels this week. There is no organized rainfall in the forecast. October 2024 will likely end with only a trace of rain at the Columbia airport.

Saturday was very warm across South Carolina. The Columbia airport had a high temperature of 88 degrees. This set a record high for October 26. The old record was 87 degrees set in 1974 and last achieved in 2014.

A cold front moved through the state late Saturday. A few areas received some much-needed rain, but the Columbia airport only got a trace of rain. Temperatures on Sunday were drastically cooler, with highs in the middle 60s.

The workweek will start off with some clouds. Temperatures will be close to normal. Highs will be in the lower 70s in the central Midlands. It will likely be a little cooler in the northern half of the area and a little warmer in the southern half of the Midlands.

Things will gradually warm through the rest of the workweek, with highs returning to the lower 80s on Wednesday.

Halloween will be warmer than usual. Highs will be in the lower 80s. Our average high temperature for October 31 is 71 degrees. The record high temperature is 88 degrees, set in 1950.

It will remain warm for the first day of November 2024. We are expecting highs in the lower to middle 80s, but it should cool off a little for the weekend with highs in the middle to upper 70s.
