COLUMBIA, S.C. — Thanksgiving can be considered the start of the holiday season. The Fall holiday falls on the 4th Thursday of every November and can see drastically different weather conditions.
In the modern record temperatures have varied by quite a bit on this day but most Thanksgivings fall somewhere between the low 60s and low 70s in the afternoon. Considering our average high is in the middle 60s this time of the year, the average of 66 falls right in line.
When it comes to extremes, the low of 21 in 1983 and high of 80 in 1985 set the record in the Midlands.
The Midlands picked up snow one time on this holiday on 1912 multiple inches of fell in the region.
Looking at Climate Central data, the holiday has interestingly hasn’t seen much change in conditions but this could very much be because it is on a different day each year.
One thing is for sure, our holiday is looking as about average as it can get weather-wise which means a very comfortable Thanksgiving in the Midlands.
