COLUMBIA, S.C. — Hurricane Dorian is moving just off the South Carolina coast, and will continue to impact the state for much of the day.

Winds will likely continue to increase Thursday with tropical storm force winds gusts likely in the eastern Midlands.
Periods of heavy rain showers will also be possible, especially in the eastern Midlands.
Here is a timeline on what we are expecting:
Thursday until 12 PM:
Rain will be possible from the Midlands to the coast. Heavy rainfall will be likely along the coast. Tropical storm force gusts will be possible in the tropical storm warning area.
Thursday 12 PM:
Rain will be possible from the Midlands to the coast, but parts of the area may not get too much rain. Our forecast models have indicated parts of the Midlands may not get any shower activity at all. Heavy rainfall will be likely along the coast and the Pee Dee. Heavy rainfall will be possible in the eastern and southern parts of the Midlands. Tropical storm force gusts will be possible in the tropical storm warning area. Higher winds will be along the coastal region of South Carolina.
Thursday 6 PM:
Rain will be possible from the eastern Midlands to the Grand Strand, but the showers will begin to decrease in the Midlands. Heavy rainfall will be likely along the Grand Strand and the Pee Dee. Tropical storm force gusts will be possible in the tropical storm warning area, but the winds will start to decrease. Higher winds will be along the Pee Dee and the Grand Strand regions.
Friday 12 AM:
Rain will exit the state. The storm will continue to move out of the area. The winds will gradually die down across the state, but higher wind gusts will still be possible in the far eastern part of the state.
This forecast is subject to change as the strength, size and path of Dorian changes. Small changes in Dorian may lead to big changes in our forecast.
Watches/Warnings:
Tropical storm warnings now have been issued for parts of the Midlands, including Clarendon, Calhoun, Orangeburg, Lee and Sumter counties.
A hurricane warning is in effect for the entire South Carolina coast.
A warning means that hurricane conditions are expected whereas a watch means that conditions are possible.
