SPARTA, N.C. — Did you feel it? Two small earthquakes were recorded early this morning in Western North Carolina, right near Sparta, according to the USGS.
They both registered 2.3 magnitude and were about two to three miles deep.
Earthquakes this small very rarely ever cause damage. They even go unnoticed or unfelt most of the time. However, there are a few reports of folks feeling a little bit of shaking in this area this morning, around the same time.
If you felt it, you can report it here.
Of course, Sparta comes to mind very quickly as the site of the big 5.1m earthquake back in August of 2020 that caused damage to over 500 buildings. Aftershocks were a regular occurrence following that one.
