ELGIN, S.C. — The US Geological Survey (USGS) confirms two early morning earthquakes in the area around Elgin, South Carolina, on January 11, 2022.
The first, a 1.7 magnitude, was reported at 12:31 a.m. Tuesday, 5 kilometers (3.1 miles) east of Elgin at a depth of 5.4 K (3.35 miles). Coordinates: 34.168°N 80.735°W
The second, a 2.0, was reported at 8:30 a.m. at 5K south of Elgin at a depth of 3.2K (1.9 miles). Coordinates: 34.180°N 80.698°W
This makes a total of 12 earthquakes in the same area since December. 27.
