Weather impact: A little break from the heat and humidity

A few showers and storms will be possible this afternoon and this evening.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — A few stray showers or storms will be possible today. Drier air with a cooling trend moves in for the rest of the workweek. The moisture may increase by the weekend, but there is little chance for rain after today.

Sunday was hot and humid. The Columbia airport had a high temperature of 93 degrees. A few areas received a little rain, but most of the Midlands were dry. The airmass is slightly drier today, but the main dry air will not move into the area until late tonight.

Our high-resolution forecast models indicate a disturbance will swing through the area today. This may be enough to spark off a few storms. Severe weather is not expected today. High temperatures will be close to normal. Temperatures this afternoon will be in the upper 80s to lower 90s.
