Weather impact: Cloudy with a few showers possible today

With clouds sticking around, temperatures will remain cooler than normal, with highs today in the lower 80s.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The clouds will hang around over the next several days. The moisture is expected to increase, bringing a chance of showers and thunderstorms each day. Additionally, there is a possibility that a low-pressure system could form off the coast next week, which may further enhance rain chances.

Through tonight, moisture will gradually increase, and a few light showers are possible overnight. Winds from the Atlantic will continue to bring moisture into the region. While widespread rain is not likely yet due to limited upper atmospheric support, some light showers may develop, especially later tonight, because of upslope winds.

The weather pattern will stay largely unchanged, with easterly winds continuing to bring moisture. This will result in on-and-off showers both Saturday and Sunday, though the rainfall amounts will be light, around 0.1 to 0.25 inches each day. The persistent cloud cover will keep temperatures cooler than usual for this time of year.

Looking ahead to Monday through Thursday, rain chances will continue as the moisture from Francine remains stalled. A low-pressure system may develop off the South Carolina coast, which could lead to increased rain and potential flooding.

However, the exact timing and location of this system are still uncertain. Regardless of whether the system forms, the stalled moisture boundary will keep rain in the forecast through the beginning of the week.
