Weather impact: Mainly cloudy skies today

A coastal low is expected to form off of the Carolinas. This may bring more rain to us Monday and Tuesday.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The dry weather sticks around today, even as the clouds increase. Some rain is possible Thursday afternoon. The highest chance for rain will be from late Friday into early Saturday. After that, moisture will stick around, leading to the possibility of showers and thunderstorms each day.

Temperatures will be a little cooler than normal, staying in the low to mid-80s, thanks to increased cloud cover. A large area of high pressure is moving over the region, keeping things dry for now.

On Thursday, moisture will continue to build, and areas in Georgia and parts of the Carolinas will start to see rain. By Friday, rain will be widespread across the region, with scattered showers. The rain may be heavy at times, especially in certain areas where conditions could lead to flash flooding. High temperatures on Friday will be in the upper 70s.

The weather models are showing some uncertainty about how much rain will fall. Some forecasts suggest light showers, while others predict more substantial downpours. Either way, it is safe to say that Friday will be a wet day for many people in the region.

As we move into the weekend, the moisture that has been moving in will likely stall over the area. This means more rain is possible on Saturday and into the following week. Although the intensity of the rain is expected to lessen, scattered showers could continue each day.

There is a possibility of low pressure developing offshore, which could bring more rain or storms on Monday and Tuesday. This weather pattern remains uncertain, so it is something to keep an eye on over the next few days.
