Weather impact: Mainly cloudy, some light rain possible today

The moisture in the area will linger, leading to a few showers possible today.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — A low-pressure system will continue to weaken as it moves across the area today, bringing a few lingering showers. These showers will be light, and any rainfall amounts will be minimal.

Throughout the day, there may still be occasional rainfall, but overall, the temperatures will remain a little below normal. By midweek, more isolated showers are expected, though the amounts should remain light. By the weekend, however, the weather is expected to clear, bringing drier conditions.

Early this morning, light rain and drizzle will slowly move through the Midlands. While the rain will be light, it could still reduce visibility for those commuting in the morning. As the surface low-pressure system continues to weaken and drift westward, moisture in the area will linger, leading to scattered showers later in the day.

The highest chance of rain will be in the northern and western Midlands, closer to where the low-pressure system is situated. Some cloud cover will persist, but clearer skies may emerge in areas like the CSRA and southern Midlands as dry air wraps around the backside of the system.

Temperatures will stay cooler under the cloud cover, with highs in the mid to upper 70s in the northern areas and low to mid 80s in the southern areas, where more sunshine is expected. Overnight, temperatures will drop into the low to mid-60s.

Some light rain and drizzle possible today. Look for highs in the upper 70s to near 80 under mainly cloudy skies. Here is this morning's forecast.

By Wednesday, the remnants of the low-pressure system will slowly move northward, bringing more sunshine and warmer temperatures in the afternoon. Some isolated showers may still occur in the northern areas, but drying conditions will follow as the night approaches.

Looking toward the weekend, high pressure will build back, leading to mostly dry and sunny conditions with highs in the low to mid-80s and overnight lows in the 60s.
