COLUMBIA, S.C. — Power outages in South Carolina continue to rise due to Tropical Storm Helene's track through the southeastern U.S. Right now the storm is moving through Georgia but it's brought high winds and heavy rains to the Midlands.
With those tropical storm force winds, coupled with rain that's soaked the ground, some trees and power lines have toppled.
As of 6:40 a.m., there were over 697,000 power outages across South Carolina, according to PowerOutage.US's website. Dominion Energy alone reported almost 300,000.
In Lexington County, just over 85,000 customers were without electricity, while in Richland there was about 62,000 outages.
