COLUMBIA, S.C. — Wet weather continues in the forecast along with the peak of hurricane season, thankfully with all of this going on, there is some good news in the forecast going ahead.

We have continued to watch cloudy weather stick around in the Midlands thanks to an area of low pressure stuck along the Gulf Coast. We saw some early morning rain but, looking at the rest of the day, I expect things to be dry until the evening where we could see another round of wet weather in the form of scattered downpours. Highs will be generally cooler in the lower 80s this afternoon.

As we look towards Sunday, there has been some improvement in the forecast with mostly cloudy conditions and only the chance of isolated downpours throughout the day. Highs should be a little bit warmer in the middle 80s.

Monday, a cold front will be moving in providing another chance of rain in the Midlands. This will allow high pressure to build in across the region. Sunshine and highs in the 80s will stick around for much of next week; a nice change from the wet weather we have been seeing.

Today marks the peak of hurricane season and thankfully things remain quiet in the tropics. Hurricane Earl will likely weaken into an area of low pressure by tomorrow. Other than that, we are only tracking one tropical wave in the Atlantic that has a low chance of development over the coming week. Even if that does develop, it would likely stay out at sea.
