COLUMBIA, S.C. — You'll now be able to get from Columbia to south Florida without that rather long ride down Interstate 95.
The Columbia Metropolitan Airport (CAE) announced Friday that American Airlines will now offer a nonstop flight from Miami to Columbia beginning December 18.
The new daily flight will leave Columbia at 7:30 a.m. and will arrive in Miami at 9:11 a.m. The return flight will leave Miami at 9:50 p.m. and return to Columbia at 11:25 p.m.
"This is huge for the Midlands region," said CAE Executive Director Mike Gula. "Miami is a destination that has been a part of our airline and air service conversations for some time, so we are very excited to see this come to fruition. Our passengers can now easily access destinations in the Caribbean, South America, Central America and various European markets with ease."
People can begin booking their flights on Monday, May 13.
This isn't the airport's only flight to Florida. In October, Via Airlines added a nonstop flight to and from Orlando.
Friday's announcement comes just days after its third nonstop flight to New York was added.
Columbia Metropolitan Airport does have nonstop flights to several other U.S. cities:
- Dallas
- Washington National
- Philadelphia
- Charlotte
- Atlanta
- Chicago
- Houston
- Washington Dulles
- Orlando
