The funeral will be held on Saturday, Feb. 3 in Summerton.

SUMMERTON, S.C. — The Summerton community will get one more chance to say goodbye to Mayor Tony Junious at his funeral, which was announced on Thursday.

A viewing for Junious will be held on Friday, Feb. 2, at Clarendon Community Resource Center, 1154 4th St. in Summerton, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The memorial service will be at noon on Feb. 3 at Scotts Branch High School at 9253 Alex Harvin Highway in Summerton. Interment will follow at Mount Pleasant UME Church Cemetery at 1654 Fullerton Road in Pinewood.

Mayor Junious died on Saturday following a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Governor Richardson Road and Liberty Hill Road just outside of Summerton.

Junious made history in 2022 as the first Black mayor of Summerton and was remembered in the days since the crash for his lasting impression on the town and community at large.

Meanwhile, as residents, family, and friends mourn the mayor's loss, they also look toward the town's future with an upcoming special election to fill his vacant seat. Filing opens on Friday, Feb. 2 and closes on Feb. 16.
