ORANGEBURG, S.C. — A local funeral home has released details regarding memorial services for a 6-year-old boy from Orangeburg who died in a hunting accident on Saturday.
Dukes Harley Funeral Home said that funeral services for Avery Matthew Davis will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Calhoun Academy gymnasium at 81 Academy Road in St. Matthews. Pastor Johnny Baker will officiate the service. Burial will follow at Davis Cemetery, located on Davis Cemetery Road in Neeses.
Ahead of the funeral, on Friday, the family will receive visitors at Dukes-Harley Funeral Home located at 3379 Columbia Road in Orangeburg from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Officials said that Davis died on Saturday after a hunting trip in Orangeburg County near the Calhoun County line. The coroner's office said he was taken to Prisma Health Richland, where he was pronounced dead.
Davis's obituary said he was born in Columbia and was a first-grader at Calhoun Academy, where he was also involved in flag football and played baseball for the Cameron Colts. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming and riding his dirt bike or ATV. He was also a member of Emanuel Community Church and was a member of its choir.
His obituary said his goals in life included attending Clemson, playing football there and becoming a law enforcement officer.
