Suspended license? Get back on the road with this upcoming driver's license clinic

Other services will also be available at the event to help people learn about expungement and pardons, social benefit programs and other topics.

UPDATE: The address for this event has changed to 2018B Main Street, Columbia

COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Drivers with suspended driver's licenses may gain a path to legally get back on the road through an upcoming driver's license clinic in early June.

The Fifth Circuit Solicitor's Office, the public defender's office, the Rainy Day Fund and the Street Dog Coalition will be working with representatives from the Columbia Municipal Court, Municipal Court of Cayce (for Richland County tickets) and the Richland County magistrate courts to help people whose license was previously suspended under certain circumstances.

According to the solicitor's office, anyone who had an unpaid traffic ticket that led to a South Carolina driver's license suspension from one of the previously mentioned courts—and the ticket disposition is over two years old—should attend the event.

Volunteers will be on hand to advise on ways to restore their driver's licenses and lift the suspension with the South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles. Officials said this event will not handle previous convictions for driving under the influence (DUI) or driving with unlawful alcohol concentration (DUAC).

Other services will also be available at the event to help people learn about expungement and pardons, social benefit programs and other topics.

The event will be held on two dates: Friday, June 7, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Saturday, June 8, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 2018B Main Street, Columbia. Walk-ins are welcome, but the event is first come, first served.
