RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. — Deputies say an employee of the Richland County jail admitted to having a relationship with an inmate for some time during an investigation that also uncovered an elaborate plan to provide contraband inside the jail. Now, that former employee of Alvin S. Glenn is an inmate there.
The Richland County Sheriff's Department arrested 27-year-old Consuela Porch on three counts of sexual misconduct with an inmate, three counts of furnishing contraband and one count of misconduct in office.
The sheriff's department said investigators detained Porch on Friday evening. Authorities said they were investigating a report when they found Porch had plastic bags filled with cigarettes and three vapes inside a Styrofoam cup. The investigation found additional contraband in her vehicle.
Investigators said Porch used her smartwatch in the jail to coordinate contraband drops with inmates. Porch also admitted to a relationship with an inmate that was "on and off for some time," the sheriff's department said.
Porch was booked into the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center and granted a surety bond of $20,000. However, as of Saturday evening, she was still listed as a detainee at the jail.
