A K9 search uncovered 'green plant-like material' in a vehicle. Then a Richland County jail guard became a detainee

The sheriff's department said Watson was employed at Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center through Allied Barton Security.

RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. — A guard working at Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center has been charged with furnishing contraband after a vehicle search in an employee parking lot on Thursday.

The Richland County Sheriff's Department said 23-year-old Zaria Watson was arrested around 8 p.m. following a K-9 "hit" on a vehicle in the parking lot where signs indicate that a consent to search is allowed. The search uncovered what the sheriff's department described as a "green plant-like material." Authorities said the vehicle belonged to Watson, who was scheduled to work in the "guard shack" that evening.

The sheriff's department said Watson was employed at Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center through Allied Barton Security. She has since been booked into that jail on the charges. Watson has been granted a 20,000 personal recognizance bond but is still listed in custody in the jail's online records.
