Arrest made in killing of woman found dead behind Columbia convenience store

Investigators said that the victim and the suspect were acquaintances.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Columbia Police have arrested a man in connection with the death of a woman found dead behind a convenience store in Columbia in April.

Police Chief Skip Holbrook said Antonio Mark Celey Jr. is charged with murder and unauthorized removal of a dead body in the death of Dominque Michelle Palmero Pohl. Officers said they found him and took him into custody Tuesday at the intersection of Main and Calhoun Street near downtown Columbia.

Officers said based on their investigation, Celey was with Pohl at a home on McGrath Street back on April 5. Police said he inflicted "blunt force trauma" on the victim which lead to her death, then took her body from the home and disposed of it inside a garbage can at a convenience store in the 3200 block of Colonial Drive.

Her body was later found on April 11 when someone was going through the garbage can.  Police had said back then they had identified a person of interest but did not identify them.

Investigators said that the victim and the suspect were acquaintances. Officer think the two had a dispute with the victim at the time of the crime.
