FOREST ACRES, S.C. — Forest Acres police say a man who escaped from police custody last week has been found--and he was still wearing handcuffs.
Chief Don Robinson announced Wednesday that Aaron Christopher Murphy had been taken into custody in Charlotte. Robinson said a tip from the public led them to Murphy and that when he was found, he was still wearing his broken handcuffs on his wrists.
"I don't imagine he was too comfortable wearing those for eight days, but now, with his escape, he's just ensured he will likely be locked up for a lot longer," said in a statement.
According to police, Murphy was in custody on Nov. 14 for questioning in connection to a burglary when he ran away while handcuffed. Officers say he jumped into the nearby Eight Mile Creek behind a library. Police conducted a manhunt in the area but were unable to find him.
Officers said they are still unsure how Murphy got from Forest Acres to Charlotte but are investigating.
Robinson said Murphy would be charged with unlawful escape, resisting arrest, providing false information to law enforcement, burglary in the second degree and larceny. Other additional charges are still possible.
