RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. — Authorities say three juvenile suspects have been taken to the hospital following a chase involving a stolen vehicle that ended in gunfire.
According to preliminary information provided by the Richland County Sheriff's Department, deputies spotted a vehicle near Pennridge Court around 5 p.m. that had been reported stolen out of Lexington. The sheriff's department said the deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, and a short chase followed. Authorities said the three suspects then escaped the vehicle as it collided with a stop sign near Oak Manor in the Carriage Oaks subdivision.
The sheriff's department said K-9 Jax caught the driver, and K-9 Nevada apprehended a passenger. However, a third suspect allegedly jumped over a fence and, when told to stop, pulled out a handgun before being shot multiple times.
All three suspects were taken to the hospital - one for gunshot wounds and the other two for dog bites.
Authorities said deputies recovered a pistol from the scene, and all three will face "numerous" charges. The sheriff's department said the investigation is still in the early stages.
