LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. — The Lexington County Coroner's Office has released the name of a man shot and killed near Gaston on Tuesday.
According to a statement released by the office, the shooting happened outside the victim's home in the 2400 block of Glenn Road. Coroner Margaret Fisher said 53-year-old John Darrick Rumph was pronounced dead at the scene from a gunshot wound to the upper body.
The Lexington County Sheriff's Department said the shooting happened around 8:30 p.m. The department said that much of the incident is still under investigation but that investigators have identified a person of interest and are following leads in the case.
The coroner's office and the sheriff's department are investigating the incident. The sheriff's department said it will release additional information as it becomes available.
