Man accused of shooting mother of 2 dies days later

Robert Matthew Griffin Jr. was accused of killing Jordan Privette last Wednesday and would have faced a murder charge had he survived a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

BETHUNE, S.C. — Authorities now say a man who has been on life support for days has died days after he allegedly killed a mother of two in Bethune.

According to the Kershaw County Sheriff's Office, Robert Matthew Griffin Jr. died around 1 p.m. on Sunday. Authorities said that if Griffin had recovered from his wound, he would have been charged with the murder of 20-year-old Jordan Privette who was shot and killed on Wednesday.

Deputies said they were called to Wateree Grove Lane in Bethune around 8:30 p.m. that night to reports that someone had been shot. They found both Griffin and Privette wounded. The sheriff's office said that they found two handguns and an AR-15 rifle nearby.

The sheriff's office said that Privette left behind two children and urged the public to speak up if they find themselves in an abusive situation or are otherwise in crisis.

Reports provided by the sheriff's office showed previous incidents involving one where Griffin shot Privette in the chest; though, that report suggested the shooting was accidental while the now-deceased suspect was cleaning a gun.

In an earlier statement, Sheriff Lee Boan provided the phone numbers of the Mobile Crisis Team, 833-364-2274, and for those involved in an abusive relationship, Sistercare at 803-765-9428

"You can also call 911 for any emergency. We are here to help you," Sheriff Boan said.
