RCSD looking for two more suspects in "drug-deal-gone-wrong" shooting

Two were injured in a shooting at the Walmart on Killian Road that the Richland County Sheriff's Department said began with a marijuana drug deal.

RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. — The Richland County Sheriff's Department says they're still looking for two more suspects in a shooting Sunday night at the Walmart on Killian Road, in addition to the one suspect that has already been arrested on drug charges.

24-year-old Matthew Hermz was found with a gunshot wound to the arm at the scene of the shooting, and later charged with manufacturing/possession with intent to distribute.

Deputy Jay Weaver with the RCSD confirmed to News 19 today that the second person injured in the shooting was a bystander, not believed to be involved in the shooting.

"Matthew Hermz is suspected of bringing drugs to the Killian Walmart and was to sell them, but unfortunately, something went awry to where the deal went bad and involved gunfire," said Weaver.

The other two people involved in the marijuana drug deal are both suspects, and RCSD is working to find them. The Sheriff's Department did not release names or descriptions of those two suspects, citing the investigation is still ongoing.

Both Hermz and the second injured person were treated for non life-threatening injuries. Hermz was released from the hospital and booked at Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center. The second person injured was released from the hospital as well.

Anyone with any information is asked to call the Richland County Sheriff's Department or Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
