Richland County deputies investigate suspected murder after passerby spots body along road

RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. — Richland County deputies are investigating a suspected murder after a passerby found a person lying along a Richland County roadside on Thursday evening.

According to an incident report from the Richland County Sheriff's Department, deputies responded to Blue Ridge Terrace between Dakota Street and Widgean Drive around 7 p.m. The caller said he was coming home from work when he saw the victim lying in the grass alongside the road.

Authorities didn't identify the man, and the initial incident report redacted many details. However, the report states that the incident is being treated as murder and that deputies believe the murder weapon was a handgun.

No details regarding a possible suspect in the shooting were available at the time.
