BAMBERG COUNTY, S.C. — A man is facing multiple charges after a woman's body was recently found burning in a car in Bamberg County.
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) charged 28-year-old Jarett Haskell Davis on Friday with murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, unlawful possession of a firearm by a person convicted of a felony offense, third-degree arson, and desecration of human remains.
The charges stem from an incident in late April. State agents said the Bamberg County Sheriff's Office called them in after a body was discovered in a burning vehicle along Turn Ray Road on April 30. SLED investigators later determined that on April 25, on Ghents Branch Road near Denmark, Davis allegedly shot and killed the victim, who they identified as 25-year-old Megan Faith Bodiford, and then set her vehicle on fire with her inside.
A friend reported Bodiford missing on April 26 after she disappeared, leaving her four-month-old baby behind. Deputies said they searched a home on Ghents Branch Road looking for evidence. They eventually found the baby alive. The authorities said the child is now with a grandparent.
Davis was arrested around the same time for an active warrant.
