New details released in Sunday morning shooting that left man dead in Sumter

A woman has been arrested and charged with his murder.

SUMTER, S.C. — A woman has been charged with murder after a man died at an area hospital on Sunday in Sumter County.

Coroner Robbie Baker announced on Sunday that his office was investigating a shooting that sent 34-year-old Antoin Pugh to the hospital around 7 a.m.  Baker said Pugh was pronounced dead at Prisma Health Tuomey. Sumter Police later confirmed that a woman, 23-year-old Jasmine Symone Woods, was charged in his death.

Police were called to Putter Driver around 6:30 a.m. when they found Woods inside and a man lying on the floor with a gunshot wound.

Preliminary details provided by police suggest the suspect and Pugh were in a relationship at one time. Police said the estranged couple were arguing before the shooting. Woods is now in custody as the investigation continues.

An autopsy for Pugh is planned at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

The shooting is the second deadly incident under investigation in Sumter on Sunday morning. Hours earlier, police were called to the Sleep Inn hotel on Broad Street, where two people were found shot dead.
