SUMTER, S.C. — Sumter Police say they have arrested a suspect who they believe fired into an occupied home on Oct. 12.

Ty'heim Anthony James was located at a home on Flaming Road in East Sumter during a joint investigation by Sumter Police and South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) Tuesday morning, Oct. 22.

James, 21, has been charged with firing into an occupied dwelling and felony possession of a firearm.

Police believe someone fired into James' home around 7 a.m. on Oct. 12 and then drove away. In response, James left his home and began firing a gun along Robney Drive and into another home near his own.

Authorities said several people, including children, were home at the time the Robney Drive home was struck by gunfire, but no one was injured. Another property nearby and a vehicle were damaged, however.

Police urge anyone who may know James' location to call the Sumter Police Department at 803-436-2700 or Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC. The department is also still looking for the person who fired into James' home.

James is being held at the county detention center.
