SUMTER, S.C. — Police are seeking information on a man wanted in connection with a Thursday night shooting and attempted armed robbery at a home.

Sumter Police said they responded to Hoyt Heights around 10:30 p.m., where a 63-year-old resident had been shot. The victim was taken to Prisma Health Tuomey for treatment and is recovering, police said. Police are now looking for 68-year-old David McCoy of South Sumter Street in connection with the shooting.

Police said they believe McCoy was at the home and demanded money from the victim before shots were fired. He now faces multiple charges, police said. Police didn't suggest whether McCoy was the shooter or whether other people were involved in the incident but said that, if arrested, he tentatively faces charges of attempted armed robbery and assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature.

Sumter Police urge anyone with information regarding where McCoy is to call them at 803-436-2700. Tipsters can also call Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC or visit CrimeSC.com.
