COLUMBIA, S.C. — A man wanted for years in a murder off of Lake Murray Boulevard has been arrested by police in a city 1,700 miles away.
Columbia Police announced Friday that the Minot Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Service in North Dakota arrested Sherrod Cantoine Joyner.
Police had been searching for Joyner since Aug. 11, 2021, when investigators believe he killed another man at the Heights at Lake Murray Apartments located at 100 Walden Heights Drive. Police thought at the time that Joyner was an acquaintance of a woman at the location and that he was in an argument with her before the deadly shooting of her friend.
Police said at the time that the woman told Joyner to leave, and when he refused, she asked for help from a male friend. That friend then attempted to intervene when Joyner allegedly assaulted the woman. It was at this point that police believe Joyner shot the other man.
Police said the victim died at an area hospital.
Joyner faces charges of murder and domestic violence once he is extradited to Columbia, police said.
