Teen killed in midday Richland County shooting identified; deputies investigating

The report from the incident states the victim's stepfather was by his side in the yard when deputies arrived.

RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. — The coroner's office has identified a 16-year-old boy who died following a shooting in northeastern Richland County.

Investigators with the Richland County Sheriff's Department said the shooting happened around noon in the 1800 block of Bywood Drive near Dentsville. Deputies were responding to reports of shots fired when they located the victim unresponsive with a gunshot to the torso. The report from the incident states the victim's stepfather was by his side in the yard when deputies arrived.

Deputies began chest compressions to save the victim, but responding emergency medical services personnel confirmed the teen's death and called the coroner's office.

The Richland County Coroner has since identified the victim as 16-year-old Fahim Khalid of Columbia.
