LEXINGTON, S.C. — Testimony continued Thursday in the trial of Jewayne Price, one of three defendants charged in connection with the 2022 Columbiana Centre shooting that left multiple people injured.
Price faces charges including two counts of attempted murder and nine counts of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature.
Columbia Police Department Investigator Chauncy Duckett testified as the prosecution and defense debated interpretations of security footage.
The prosecution argued Price initiated the shooting, while the defense contended otherwise, questioning Duckett’s interpretation of the videos.
Prosecutors highlighted moments where Price allegedly displayed a firearm, while the defense challenged these assertions as inconclusive.
Following Duckett's testimony, two minor siblings, both wounded in the shooting, took the stand.
One sibling, shot in the leg, testified to ongoing pain, describing the persistent numbness and discomfort that flares up, especially when lying on the injured leg. She also expressed her fear for her brother when he was shot twice.
The brother then took the stand and recounted the overwhelming fear of losing his vision as he suffered injuries to the arm and leg while they were in the back of the store moments after gunfire rang out.
He got emotional when sharing that his father’s voice and a nurse in the mall kept him alert through the trauma.
Neither minor was cross-examined by the defense, and courtroom protocols were in place to protect their identities.
Another Columbia PD supervisor and cell phone expert took the stand.
The trial will resume Tuesday morning as the state builds its case against Price.
