Cayce's new interim city manager is a familiar face

Michael Conley, Cayce’s current assistant city manager, will serve as the deputy city manager alongside interim manager Jim Crosland.

CAYCE, S.C. — The City of Cayce has a new interim city manager, and it's a familiar face to the community.

Cayce City Council has appointed Cayce’s Deputy City Manager and former Assistant Director of the Cayce Department of Public Safety, Jim Crosland, as the Interim City Manager. Officials say he has more than 26 years of state and local government experience.

A South Carolina native, Crosland served in the United States Coast Guard before going on to earn his associate and bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. As an assistant director with the Cayce Department of Public Safety, Crosland served at every level of law enforcement: canine officer, narcotics detective, patrol sergeant, police instructor, and assistant director over the department.

Prior to his years with Cayce, Crosland served as a corrections officer and member of the narcotics team with the Lexington County Sheriff's Department.

Crosland is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy for Executive Leadership, a Certified Public Manager, and a graduate of the SC Economic Development Institute.

“It is essential for our city to have a leader with the competence and experience that Jim possesses, in as much it is important to recognize that he has previously served in the position of Deputy City Manager, where he led the operations of Public Safety, Sanitation, Utilities and other departments which has fully prepared him for this opportunity,” said Cayce’s Mayor Pro Tem, Tim James.

Michael Conley, Cayce’s current Assistant City Manager will serve as the Deputy City Manager alongside Crosland. Conley has more than 18 years of experience across South Carolina in zoning, planning and development. Prior to coming to Cayce, Conley was the Assistant County Administrator of Kershaw County.

"With more than 40 years of experience between these two gentlemen, Cayce has great leadership, a talented and dynamic staff and will support our staff and citizens impeccably,” Councilman Phil Carter said.
