Missing 3-year-old dies after being found in hot vehicle in Richland County, deputies say

Authorities originally responded to a report of a missing person and began searching for the child, officials said.

RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. — A 3-year-old child has died after initially being reported missing on Friday afternoon, officials say.

According to the Richland County Sheriff's Department, deputies responded to the 1000 block of Parliament Lake Drive around 1 p.m. due to a missing person report. 

Deputies then began searching for a missing three-year-old and eventually found the child in a hot vehicle. The sheriff's department said the child was taken to a local hospital and later died.

The sheriff's department said it is still investigating the incident and will provide additional information as soon as it is available.
