Man who was found in the Congaree River identified by Richland County Coroner

The man was found near the boat landing at the end of Rosewood Drive in Columbia.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The Richland County Coroner's Office has identified the man who was found dead earlier this week in the Congaree River.

Coroner Naida Rutherford said Friday the victim was Voyd Tribble III of Pomaria.

Richland County Sheriff’s Department deputies were called to the boat landing in the 600 block of Rosewood Drive around 6 p.m. Tuesday for a report of a body found in the Congaree River. A group of people who were in that area had spotted the person in the water.

Crews were able to retrieve Tribble's body and carry it back to land.

Sheriff's deputies said on Tuesday there were no obvious signs of trauma. However, a cause of death has not yet been released, and investigators have not yet said what they think may have led to Tribble's death.

“We will continue working with the Richland County Sheriff’s Department and the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources to fully investigate this incident.” Coroner Rutherford said in a statement.
