The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

SUMTER, S.C. — The South Carolina Highway Patrol has released new information in a weekend crash that took the life of a 15-year-old.

Troopers said the collision took place around 6 a.m. Sunday on Brittan Road near Excitement Lane, which is between Highway 521 and Plowden Mill Road.

Coroner Robbie Baker identified the victim as 15-year-old Marvin Butler. An autopsy is planned for the upcoming week.

According to troopers, Butler was walking down Brittan Road while a pickup truck was driving west down the road. At some point, the pickup struck the teenager, who was then pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the pickup truck was not hurt.

The collision remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

News19 reached out to the Sumter School District who confirmed Butler was a student at Crestwood High School. The district said their thoughts, prayers, and deepest sympathies are with the Butler family. The district said they will provide crisis support to both students and staff who may need assistance coping with the loss.
