Police, bomb squad in Forest Acres for grenade

The grenade was found buried behind a home and the bomb squad determined it was a "training" grenade.

FOREST ACRES, S.C. — A child found a grenade buried in a backyard in Forest Acres. 

The Forest Acres police received a call around 5pm that a grenade was found buried in a backyard inside of a concrete block in the 2000 block of Dalloz road.

The Richland County Bomb squad arrived as did the Columbia Fire Department.   When the bomb squad examined the grenade they determined it was a training weapon and the Richland County Sheriff's Department took possession of it.

“We thank Richland County Sheriff’s Department, and particularly their bomb squad, for their fast response and work to ensure this neighborhood and family were kept safe,” Said FAPD Chief Don Robinson. “A lot of training hours go into this subset of law enforcement and we appreciate being able to call on such a skilled group of officers when in need.”
