PELION, S.C. — Crews returned to the scene of a fast-moving brush fire near Pelion after it jumped a break on Sunday.

A spokesperson for Lexington County said fire crews, members of Lexington County Emergency Medical Services and the Lexington County Sheriff's Department were sent to a brush fire in the 100 block of Northcutt Road and the 7000 block of Edmund Highway (Hwy. 302) around 2:10 p.m. on Saturday.

When crews arrived, they found a fast-moving brush fire and contained it before it reached homes. After controlling the fire, the South Carolina Forestry Commission and the Lexington Fire Service remained at the scene.

Authorities announced on Sunday that the fire had escaped the breaks made to keep it from spreading. Crews have since brought the three-acre fire under control again.

County officials said residents in the area should still be aware of smoke that will likely be present for the next two or three days.
