COLUMBIA, S.C. — The South Carolina State Fair might cost you a bit when it comes to finding a bite to eat, but the options for affordable food are there.
One low-cost food option fairgoers have is Jamil Shriners. Jamil Shriners have been at the South Carolina State Fair state fair for over 50 years and is staffed by volunteers.
Dicky Adams has been a volunteer cook at Jamil Shriners for four years.
"Well, you know you see a family of four or six sometimes," said Adams. "It's a lot of money to feed kids out here. We try to keep our prices low. I mean we keep a good quality product, and we keep it low so the family can afford it."
Food options at Jamil Shriners food truck are all under $10, and the funds go to a good cause, the Shriners Children's Hospital in Greenville.
Stephanie Bolton says she has been attending the fair since childhood and always supports Jamil Shriners.
"They offer affordable food and drinks for people you're not having to pay tons," said Bolton. "And they also they put a lot of time energy back into the community and the funds they raise; they have free healthcare for children, so it's very important that we especially support the Shriners.
Another affordable option at the fair is Aunt Martha's concession on the corner of Academic Avenue.
