Family Solutions children's pajama drive

Family Solutions recently hosted a pajama drive for children in the community and received two hundred donated pieces of clothing.

ORANGEBURG, S.C. — Family Solutions is a program of the South Carolina Office of Rural Health that helps to provide access to resources for residents in Orangeburg. They recently hosted a pajama drive for children in the community and received 2000 donated pieces of clothing.

Lamikka Samuel is the director at Family Solutions and says they have expanded on what they supply to Orangeburg County.

"We feel like it's very important that the community has a place where they can come to receive some of the services that they maybe in need of,” said Samuel. “So it's not just things like SNAP and [Temporary Assistance for Needy Families] and [Women, Infants and Children Nutrition Program] and things of that nature. But if you need household items, pajamas, some nonperishable food items, other clothing, coats of that nature we want to be a place where the community feels safe in coming and receiving those resources."

Romaine Stephens is the community engagement specialist at Family Solutions and says the pajama drive will make an impact for children.

"Pajamas may not seem like a big thing for most people but for someone who's in need,” said Stephens. “It's really important. The weather's changing and so to have something of your own to keep you war, during these times, something that you can say this is mine and feel comfortable sleeping in is really important especially to children."

Children at the Samaritan House, CASA Family System, and local foster care will be recipients of the brand new pajamas that have been donated.

Stephens says children are excited when provided with new pajamas.   "It's really impactful for the children to get and they get excited when they see it,” said Stephens. “Because we have all different kinds like unicorns and we have ones for boys like spider man."

Family Solutions is still accepting donations for their Pajama Drive. Donations can be made through their Amazon wish list.
