IRMO, S.C. — The Irmo Fire District is getting ready to open its brand new station, but some help is still needed.
The department, located on Childs St., used to be the site of a daycare… but now will be used to house some of the town's firefighters.
Members of the fire district are looking forward to opening the doors to the new facility any day now… but the shelves are still pretty bare.
That’s why the Irmo Chamber of Commerce and other local organizations are stepping up to ask the community to help.
“We are trying to stock the station with the things that we need to live. Anywhere from cups, plates, bedding, vacuums, anything that you would need to live for 24 hours in a firehouse,” Chamber president Kerry Powers told Street Squad.
While the district has a budget for things like this, it is hoping to save it in order to get new emergency gear the firefighters may need.
“These men and women work really hard for our community and it’s a really dangerous job so please show your love and if you can … help us stock the station,” Powers added.
To donate, go to irmofirefoundation.org where there’s a list of things you can buy for the district, or a place for you to donate. You can also bring donations directly to the Irmo Chamber of Commerce.
