Apartment fire on Bush River Road forces 8 adults, children from their homes

The American Red Cross is assisting the families impacted by the fire.

LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. — Authorities say an apartment fire off Bush River Road in Lexington County has displaced multiple families.

The Irmo Fire District said the fire happened Thursday afternoon at Woodland Village Apartment Homes near I-20. Responding crews found heavy smoke and fire from the rear of an apartment building when they arrived. Crews from Irmo, Columbia and West Columbia were able to get the flames under control within 30 minutes.

Four units were damaged in the fire, displacing eight people, including children. Officials from the Irmo Fire District said the American Red Cross is assisting those families.

The cause of the fire hasn't been released.
