Shooting outside Holly Hill leaves one dead; deputies investigating

ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. — One person has died following a shooting outside Holly Hill that happened on Sunday.

An incident report filed by the Orangeburg County Sheriff's Office said deputies were called to the 100 block of Brightwater Drive near Holly Hill on Sunday around 2 a.m. Arriving deputies found the victim. Deputies began rendering first aid to the victim and securing the scene with the help of other agencies.

Deputies said they searched the area for witnesses and additional evidence but said people nearby declined to provide information regarding how the victim was shot.

The sheriff's office didn't release the victim's name, but the report shows that he was a 22-year-old man from Summerville. While the report narrative said the man was taken to the hospital and doesn't explicitly mention his death, the report's incident type is listed as a homicide.

The shooting is being investigated by the Orangeburg County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Division. 

News19 has requested the victim's name from the Orangeburg County Coroner's Office.
