Confrontation between Orangeburg officer, man ends with gunshot wound to hand

SLED is investigating Saturday’s shooting in Orangeburg involving an officer.

ORANGEBURG, S.C. — The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is investigating a weekend confrontation between an Orangeburg Department of Public Safety officer and a man that ended with a gunshot wound to the hand.

According to a South Carolina Law Enforcement Division incident report the event took place in the  parking lot on the corner of Henley Street and Gibson Street on Saturday, March 16. According to the report, an Orangeburg Public Safety officer was sitting in his parked patrol vehicle when 29-year-oild David Glover came over and opened the door of the car. 

The two got into a struggle, and the report said the officer shot Glover in the hand. Glover was transported to the hospital for treatment and the officer was not injured.

Glover is being charged with breach of peace, aggravated in nature. Because this is an officer involved shooting, DPS requested SLED be brought in to investigate. 

News19 requested an incident report from Orangeburg DPS but while there were details about the time, place, and location, the narrative of the incident was redacted.
