LEXINGTON, S.C. — The sixth day of testimony in the trial of Jewayne Price concluded Tuesday as both the prosecution and defense rested their cases following testimony of witnesses, a firearms examiner, and victims from the 2022 Columbiana Mall shooting.
Jewayne Price, one of three individuals charged in the Easter weekend incident, faces multiple charges, including two counts of attempted murder.
Prosecutors argued that Price was the initial shooter, presenting testimony from Thomas Smith, a crime scene investigator and firearms examiner from the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department, who analyzed bullet trajectories to support the claim that Price fired first.
The defense, meanwhile, maintained Price’s innocence, citing self-defense and questioning the prosecution's evidence.
Witness testimony included a recount from a teenager who was shot, whose identity was withheld.
Tearfully, she described her call to her father in the immediate aftermath. "I called him and I...I called him and I said I got shot and I asked him if I was gonna die ... and I told him to get there as fast as he could and then the line went dead,” she recounted.
Afterward, both sides rested. The defense confirmed that Price would not take the stand.
Closing arguments will take place on Thursday.
Price is facing two counts of attempted murder, nine counts of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, and unlawful carry of a pistol.
