Missing Sumter teen found dead day before 16th birthday

Derrick 'CD' Wilson, a missing teen from Sumter, was found dead from a gunshot wound near Hoyt and Nelson streets. Authorities are investigating.

SUMTER, S.C. — Authorities have found a missing Sumter teen dead of a gunshot wound just one day before his 16th birthday.

According to the Sumter Police Department, the family reported Derrick "CD" Wilson of South Purdy Street missing on Wednesday afternoon. On Tuesday, he was seen leaving a relative's home on Meadow Circle. At the time, he got into a car with two people police haven't identified.

On Thursday afternoon, authorities found Wilson's body near the corner of Hoyt and Nelson streets with an apparent gunshot wound. Police are working to determine what happened and why. Since announcing Wilson's death, police said they have arrested 17-year-old Jaylen Hammett in Clarendon County for accessory before the fact of murder. Investigators are still looking for another suspect, 20-year-old Ja'Hugh L'Goeshay Brukale Martin of Manning, who is facing a murder charge and possibly others.
