The crash is still under investigation.

SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. — Authorities have identified a man who the South Carolina Highway Patrol says died in a Friday morning crash in Sumter County.

Master Trooper Mitchell Ridgeway said the crash happened just before 2 a.m. on U.S. 15 (South Lafeyette Drive) near Manning Avenue, roughly a quarter mile outside of Sumter.

Ridgeway said a 2020 Honda sedan was heading south on U.S. 15, traveled off the road, and hit a traffic control device pole. The driver of the vehicle, identified by the Sumter County Coroner's Office as 45-year-old Eric Hazzard, died at the scene of the crash. Coroner Robbie Baker said the driver was traveling at high speed at the time of the crash.

The crash is still under investigation.
