SUMTER, S.C. — Light has returned to a Sumter neighborhood after a crash caused an hours-long power outage.

Duke Energy reported that a vehicle damaged equipment on Sunday afternoon, causing an outage for just shy of 200 customers. Utility maps showed an area south of Broad Street and several blocks along North Purdy Street without power.

Sumter Police, who responded to the area, said the incident resulted from a single-vehicle crash. Utility workers later arrived at the scene. Duke Energy initially estimated that power would be restored around 7:30 p.m., but the company's outage map updated that estimate to 11 p.m. later in the evening. The outage was cleared from the utility's maps ahead of schedule, however.

Duke Energy said the outage was first reported around 4:40 p.m.
